National MAP process - PoC
The MAP file is a digital description of road segments or intersections. Before Sweden can scale-up and safeguard interoperable high-quality C-ITS Services, the process to create and maintain the MAP data needs to be improved and harmonised.
The MAP file is a digital description of road segments or intersections. For the intersection case, it includes data about the traffic signals surrounding such as approaches, lanes, stop lines, traffic directions and possible paths to travel, signal groups etc.
Findings from NordicWay 2 have proven that the current process is slow and inadequate. It is complex and consists of several manual steps that increases the risk for human errors, long lead times and substantial costs. Before Sweden can scale-up and safeguard interoperable high-quality C-ITS Services, the process to create and maintain the MAP data needs to be improved and harmonised on a national level.
The objective for this PoC is to align on a possible future process for production of MAP data which includes:
· MAP Data ( Production & Update, Quality Assurance, Storage)
· Process, roles and responsibilities
· Evaluation of available MAP tools on the market (for development, operation & maintenance)
This PoC is led by the City of Gothenburg and participating partners are City of Stockholm, Uppsala and the Swedish Transport Administration.
